Youth

Youth Transformer 2.0

The Youth Transformer 2.0 project, implemented by HKYWCA, is designed to address the escalating mental health crisis among Hong Kong’s youth. With youth suicide rates under the age of 15 showing a distressing upward trend, the programme targets the high-pressure transition from primary to secondary school as a critical window for support.

The initiative addresses several modern challenges identified through HKYWCA frontline observation, including the developmental gaps caused by COVID-19 and the prevalence of "helicopter parenting". These factors have contributed to weak self-competence and a lack of autonomy among students, particularly within new immigrant families where academic expectations are exceptionally high.

To combat these issues, the programme utilizes a three-tier service model:

  • Tier 1: Mass Education: Reaching thousands of beneficiaries through interview talks, stress management workshops, and family graduation photo sessions to foster a supportive community environment.

  • Tier 2: Targeted Training: Small-group interventions such as "Self-management Training Camps" and "Summer Transforming Classes" where students practice life skills to build independence.

  • Tier 3: Intensive Support: Individualized guidance from trained mentors and social workers who help families formulate "Family Improvement Plans" to resolve deep-seated conflicts and enhance communication.

Running from October 2025 to January 2028, the project aims for participants to report manageable stress levels and improved self-management. By equipping students with emotional resilience and guiding parents toward more empowering parenting styles, Youth Transformer 2.0 seeks to ensure that students transition smoothly into secondary school with enhanced psychosocial competence.
