Introduction

This 2-year project is an extension of The Hong Kong Intergenerational Baseball Growth Partners Project co-funded with Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation. The project aims to empower elderly team sports players to support the youth to face their mental health challenges. Through a unique intergenerational team sports approach and the introduction of pickleball and flyball on top of baseball, this advanced project seeks to address and support the well-being of both the elderly and young generations. The project also encourages Family Participation and Support: Parental involvement is crucial for fostering inclusive family relationships.

Objectives

  1. Utilize team sports as a medium to enhance the physical and mental well-being, as well as the social and emotional skills of young people through positive psychology and growth mindset learning.

  2. Train the elderly to become team sports growth partners, fostering intergenerational relationships and trust through meaningful cross-generational communication and learning.

  3. Encourage parents of young participants to take an active role in their children’s growth journey and strengthen family relationship by enhancing their intergenerational communication and appreciation skills.

  4. Organize seminars and intergenerational baseball competitions to unite social attention, breaking stereotypes about the elderly and young people, promoting a culture of caring and inclusiveness, and the values of intergenerational growth within families and society.
